"Implementing Nutrition Education within Charitable Food Organizations" - Chasidie L Glover, RDN, LDN, MS

"Snooze-Fest vs Going Viral: The Art of Crafting Effective, Research-Based Content for Any Platform" - Carolyn Williams, PhD, RD

Lecture Summary: Food and nutrition are hot topics on every digital platform today ranging from Instagram and TikTok to print media outlets and podcasts. Yet, it’s tough to get credible, research-based messaging heard over trending content — that may or may not be accurate or science-based. This means effective communication is critical for dietitians to get our voices heard. But how do you create attention-grabbing posts, videos, articles, and podcasts rooted in research-based science? Is it even possible to craft viral messaging that’s rooted in science? Carolyn Williams, PhD, RD is a 2017 James Beard Journalism Award Winner for Food and Health and has written 250+ print and online articles for outlets like CookingLight, EatingWell, Real Simple, and Allrecipes. She also co-hosts the popular podcast Happy Eating that explores food and lifestyle connections to one’s mental wellness.
This session is sponsored by the NC Cattlemen's Beef Council

Lecture Summary: The Healthy Opportunities Pilots (HOP) is the nation’s first comprehensive program to test and evaluate the impact of providing select evidence-based, non-medical interventions related to housing, food, transportation and interpersonal safety and toxic stress to high-needs Medicaid enrollees. This presentation aims to provide an overview of HOP, including identification of pilot regions, member eligibility, and key stakeholders; to detail the food sector services and implementation processes; and to educate RDNs on their roles in fostering the pilot’s success to promote the pilot to policy pipeline. While the Pilot is in progress and outcomes are not yet analyzed, HOP has demonstrated indicators of success and has generated lessons for future implementation, which will be discussed.
