Call for Poster Presentations:
There will be poster presentations at this regional meeting. The deadline to submit a poster abstract was January 31, 2020. Click here for more information about the submission process and poster guidelines.
Canned Food Drive:
NCAND will be having a food drive to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Food Pantry. This food pantry benefits children with CF whose family indicated struggling with food insecurity. For each item of food donated you will receive a raffle ticket to be entered to win a Trader Joe's gift card and Cabot has donated a $25 gift basket gift card that we will also be raffling off. (MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN)
For every three items donated to the canned food drive you will be entered into an additional drawing to win a sur la table gift card.
Please no glass or opened items.

"Nuances with Applying the low FODMAP Diet" Kate Scarlata, MPH, RDN
Lecture Summary: Up to 80% of individuals with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) perceive diet as a trigger to their GI distress. The most evidenced based nutritional therapy for IBS is the low FODMAP diet. Although 50-70 percent of IBS patients will effectively manage their digestive symptoms with the low FODMAP diet, it is not an intervention for all IBS patients. Dietitians should be able to select the best candidate for a 3 phase low FODMAP diet as well as know when to offer a more flexible application of the diet called, "FODMAP gentle". Alternatively, dietitians should be able to assess which patients might be best suited for non-diet interventions as first line therapy for symptom management. This session will cover the 3 phase application of the low FODMAP diet, explain what a FODMAP gentle approach entails, as well as discuss other modalities to consider in your IBS patients when an exclusion diet is contraindicated. "Creating and Sustaining a Community-Academic Partnership for Improving Nutrition Status, Food Security and Chronic Disease Outcomes in Rural Appalachia" Melissa Gutschall, PhD, RD, LDN
Lecture Summary: This presentation will describe initiatives implemented by the partnership, including community nutrition education, sustainable food systems, healthcare-based food security screenings and resource referrals, and community-based focus groups to gather information about local food and nutrition needs.
